What I Wore: NYFW FW18

Look #1

The first look for FW was a pretty simple one! I wanted to be warm, but I also wanted something cropped. I've seen a lot of really long or really short coats, so I decided to do a little DIY on this yellow denim jacket from H&M (only $20). Don't mind me tooting my own horn, but I must say I love it. I matched it with some comfortable denim from American Eagle, and my trusty Topman shearling coat. Finally, I topped it off with some necklaces, which if you don't already know, make any outfit a little more cool. Oh, and I can't forget my Gucci loafers.

Look #2

The next look was one of my favorites. I'm always in the mood to wear stripes, especially Beetlejuice stripes. What better than the allusion of a striped jumpsuit? It's actually a separate shirt and pants, but the stripes almost lined up perfectly. The Gucci belt bag worked in my favor by giving even more of an allusion I was wearing a jumpsuit. This look was a lot, I know, but adding the grey coat totally toned it down, making for such a cool look. I'm also trying to hop on board the dad shoe trend with my classic Reeboks. They're no Triple S's but a guy can wish right?

Look #3

This look is a tie with look #2 for my favorite of FW. I loved the way everything fit and how it came together. I wanted to wear my cricket sweater, but I didn't want the outfit to be too "smart." That gave me the idea of going for something super baggy, so I added a really oversized white shirt with the sleeves going past the sweater sleeves. Then, I added my cord flares that are from Zara (sod out). Surprising not only you but myself too, I didn't opt for any necklaces Just a few small rings. I linked similar shoes and coat above!

One more thing - small sunnies

I was all about the tiny trendy sunglasses this trip. I currently have 3 pair: a vintage rayban style, and 2 from a gas station. I linked 2 different styles if you're interested in possibly getting on board with the trend. However, the ones below are a little big to be considered tiny, so they're a great way to try tiny sunglasses without getting too small.

A Partial Look #4

I wasn't able to get this look properly photographed because I was only in NYC for a few hours the day I wore this. I still figured I'd go through it with you guys since I liked it! The main part of the outfit is the Band of Outsiders track jacket! I'm absolutely obssesed with the color and the fit. It's sort of cropped, but long enough too. I'm debating getting the matching pants to have a whole suit.

Spring Hasn't Sprung

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like at this point in the year, we're all starting to get tired of our winter clothes.  I looked into Spring trends only to still be empty handed in ideas of what I could start buying. I even looked at buying more pieces for the Winter season. While there might be pieces out there, I haven't found them.  The stagnancy is leading to dreams of Spring. Which has led me to think of Spring break, then about the clothes, the bathing suits, and then the beach, and so on and so on. To fill this itch for warmer weather and anything Spring related, I chose a pastel palette for most of the outfits I wore the last few days!

Look #1

IMG_7820.jpg

I kept lots of neutrals and pastels throughout all of the outfits, but I think this might be my favorite. I paired one of my favorite COS tees with another great overcoat from COS. Still riding with the checks, I matched some of the pinker tones in my pants with the tone in my tee. & Because every outfit needs a little something, I went for patent leather doc martens and three necklaces: a vintage cross, one from Louis Vuitton and a vintage chain.

Protip: If you're family is okay with it, ask about any old jewlery they might have. My grandparents love when I ask about their stuff and always end up wanting me to keep it. It's a great way to get a beautufl peice and hear an even better story about their past.

My favorite part of look #2 are the shoes. The shoes! THE SHOES! Grenson has some of the best platform brogues, and I've had my black pair for awhile now. I'm sure you guys have seen these in previous posts before. I'm just carrying the message of Grenson's amazing shoes, but yes, I was gifted these pair of Archies. Continuing with the look, I'm calling all magpies because I kept all the necklaces. Who doesn't love some shiny? The rest of the outfit is actually from Zara and was all on sale when I got them, except the pants.

The final look was a bit Gucci inspired. I love all of their motifs as of late. This sweater in particular is from Anthropolgie. I got it a year or so ago, so I wasn't able to find it, but I did find some just-as-quirky substitutes. It also is mostly wool, so I put the white shirt under it hoping to protect my skin. I ended up loving how the collar popped out of the mock-neck. Keeping with a pastel-ish theme, I paired my Uniqlo Coat as well as my $5 dickies sale jeans. Of course, I topped it off with my new Grensons. They're linked above if you're wanting to get more details about their make and etc.

Peep the sassy as hell women's option I linked below.

Socks & Loafers

As I write this blog post, I feel like I'm recommending a fashion faux pas. That's not stopping me from galavanting around town in my socks and loafers though. Yes yes, I know it's usually socks and sandals that get the dirtiest of looks, but I also got my fare share of devil eyes. I'm not sure why it's not being embraced by more people today, but that's why I'm here - to encourage you to look stylish as hell in your socks and loafers. I put together 3 looks that I think look great while showing off your sock collection. I didn't opt for any patterns but if you're a pattern connoisseur, definitely add those pattern socks to the look. Also, if you're a regular viewer of my Instagram stories, you might've seen me post some style inspiration photos that featured the socks and shoes combo.

Look #1

Our first look is one I thought was quite Parisian. A classic Comme Des Garcons striped tee with my vintage Levis and an artist smock is a vintage look like no other for men and women. I paired it with my Gucci Loafers and just some plain white tube socks. This is a great look for any type of daytime outing. The loose denim and casual tee are so comfortable and movable allowing you to do almost anything.

IMG_7049.jpg

The second outfit I put together is still somewhat minimal. I paired a blue t-shirt sweater from Topman with some of my thrifted plaid pants. Then, I threw my grey Uniqlo duster on top. In the theme of keeping it simple (somewhat), I added light purple socks stuck with my go-to Gucci loafers. Surprisingly, the neutral colors worked out perfectly complementing each other. If you're trying to emulate the look, be sure to play around with colors in your closet! Keeping clean and simple silhouettes allows you to play more with color.

Look #3

Now to my final look where I opted for socks and loafers. I'm not one to be super preppy; I even stray away from button-up's most of the time. However, that won't keep me away from a cricket sweater. I actually got this particular sweater ages ago on Black Friday at Ralph Lauren and have kept it ever since. If you have the funds to splurge, I 10/10 recommend buying this classic style from a quality retailer instead of a fast fashion store. The rest of the look was pretty simple! I paired up a black tee with some vintage black denim, and like all the other looks, socks and loafers. I linked the same white socks above, so feel free to go back if you're wanting more details on where to get them. Finally, I added 3 of my favorite necklaces. I always recommend buying and saving for real gold jewelry (even plated works.) I just hate whenever I've bought a cheaper piece and it will tarnishes after a few wears. That's why I never spend the $10 or $15 on something that won't last me more than a few wears.

A final note: If you made it this far, you can thank me for not including "knock your socks off" at any point in this post.

The 90's, baby

I’m calling public notice to the 90’s coming back full force. With the last Fashion Week, we saw so many 90’s silhouettes. From a bit of shoulder pads, to fanny packs, to the checks. Flashback to the 1995 film, Clueless, and relive Cher Horowitz’s moment in a full yellow check ensemble.

IMG_6263.jpg
IMG_6385.jpg

While I might not be on board with a yellow checked matching set, I am on board with the earlier. If you read my What I Wore in NYC, you would’ve seen where I talked about purchasing the item I’m featuring today—THE fanny pack. I hope it goes without saying, but a fanny pack can easily be worn by women and men. I went a little lavish with this one, but I wanted it so badly and I’ve saved for a bit (including cutting out numerous $5 coffees a week.)  Regardless, I finally bit the bullet and bought this Gucci fanny pack from the Marmont collection. I usually wouldn’t do a post on an item just to show how I styled it, but in this occasion I made an exception because I’m just too pumped about it. As you can see, there are two ways to wear it— around the hips or cross body (sort of.) I also think this fanny pack would be a staple for any festival you guys might be going to and would add the certain something you’re looking for, not to mention it’s great storage. I can easily fit my iPhone X, cardcase, headphones, a snack, and sunglasses in it.

Together I think everything works out quite nicely, but I know some of the options I chose might be to out there for some and just not applicable for everyday wear. However, anything could be switched out for something way easier, the cords for jeans/jean shorts or mules for sneakers.

The Shoot

Now for the shopping

The links are on the images, so if you want to check them out just click! For the most part it's all unisex, just check out your size measurments to find your size. Belt bag wise, I got the 85cm and I have a ~29 waist. For the mules I picked a Gucci size 8, but I usually wear a US size 10 or a European 42.

Sporty Spice

I feel like I'm not one to usually dress super street style or the sporty look (Yeezy, Vetement, Fear of God, etc.), but this is a look that brings a certain essence from those designers. Before I go into the look, keep in mind I'll link similar items at the bottom of the page.

IMG_6220.jpg

I chose to match the stripe down my Zara pants with my Topman Suede Bomber. For one, the stripe down the side automatically gives a sporty street look, but I also feel the bomber does. While bombers might not be super trendy, they're a staple piece that is almost never out of style. After basing my outfit off the color play of those two items, I decided I want to "smarten" it up a bit. Thus, I added a 70's inspired Cos sweater with 3 stripes of color with my Grenson Archie shoes. Color matching/blocking is a great way to put together outfits when you don't know what to pair a certain piece with. It almost always looks purposeful and makes you look somewhat stylish. Take for instance, the all black look. While this isn't what I was going for, it's definitely along similar lines. Another great thing about this type of styling is this outfit can be super casual or dressed up. So often people take an all sporty streetwear looks and exchange one piece of it with something smart for an automatic dressier outfit.

Side note: I added a Parisian Vogue because how cool?

Women's

I personally love all the bright colors here. It's a great way to find a staple piece for your everyday wardrobe and to try color blocking if you're up to it. It's also a plus most of these items are on sale since we're in a big sale season.

Men's

A lot of these items are sale this time of year so be sure to check them out! All the deep colors are perfect colors for the winter.

New Years Outfit That You Already Have

As we only have a few days until New Years Day, I figured I should give my two sense about what to wear on New Years. I think it can be particularly hard for guys to find a festive outfit just because stores have only recently started marketing festive outfits to match women’s counterparts. I shopped a lot of the ASOS sale and found a few things to have options, but for the most part, I want to show you guys some outfits with pieces I already have and that you might have too! I think it’s very important for your wardrobe to be filled with pieces you can wear somewhat year round (disregarding seasonal clothing). Sequins and sparkles are nice if you have the extra cash to spend on them for one New Years outfit, but I personally choose other ways to have a New Years outfit. Don’t worry ladies! I’m going to link some of my favorites for you too!

Also note, this is not sponsored in any way I just love helping you guys out with outfit inspo!

IMG_56790.jpg

A lot of us might have some checked pieces since it’s been one of the biggest trends this season, and I think this is a great time to pull them out! I have numerous pairs of checked pants and suit jackets that could work. Brownie points if you have a cool matching suit to really make an appearance. Below are some great options that would look amazing paired with any turtleneck or shirt. I paired my trousers with a turtle neck and just to be a little more "fun," I added my shearling jacket.

All photos have a link to them to shop the item!

IMG_5748.jpg

I also think patent leather is perfect for any New Years party! I recently got some black patent leather doc martens on my trip to NYC and I will for sure be rocking them this New Years. Some leather pants would also look great as I know a lot of people already have a pair. In this outfit, I paired my vintage Harley Davidson Jacket with my Patent Docs.

IMG_5847.jpg

“Wacky colors” are also a great way to look a bit more festive than your normal attire. I personally don't think any color is too far out there, but I keep my wardrobe somewhat neutral. Even the smallest amount of color, especially if you’re notorious for being the one dressed in all black, will show that you’re feeling festive! Here, I paired my bright pink blazer with a green sweater and turtle neck.

Finally, dresses similar to these are a great and affordable way to get an outfit together quickly for New Years. Don't worry if they're short either. Tights always look great with shorter silhouettes. Just pair them with some booties. Another option would be to wear over the knee boots! Sparkly, red, leather, velvet, etc. are all New Years appropriate, and if it’s not a ball gown, any style should do fine! Shiny skirts and bags are also easy ways to add that certain je ne sais quoi to any outfit.

Also, HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you all had a great year and hopefully 2018 will be even better!

What I Wore in NYC

Every year, my mom and I go to New York City a week or so before Christmas. We've both been enough times to have done most of the tourist-y things, so we pretty much just explore and shop (avoiding most of the crowds thank g). It's always so much fun and I always look forward to it, especially because it's always after finals! We usually stay in Chelsea or Time Square because it’s more affordable than Soho, but this year we decided to splurge a little and stay in the Soho. Our hotel, the Arlo Soho, was literally less than a 10 minute walk from the Chanel. You can only imagine the heaven we were in. I can’t even begin to rave about the location. It also seemed to be a good place to catch cheap Ubers. Don't get me wrong though, I really do enjoy using the subway for some reason…. Anyway, despite it raining the day we flew home, we had great weather the entire trip with the temperature in 40 degree Fahrenheit range. I was able to pretty much wear 2-3 layers and stay somewhat warm even though I'm ALWAYS the freezing one in the room. A bigger feat was keeping my packing to a minimum with only a carry on and a personal item. I brought 2 coats, 2 sweaters, 3 pairs of pants, 2 t-shirts, and 2 pairs of shoes. I brought other essentials obviously, but that's a TMI topic.  Don't be fooled though, I definitely did some shopping and came home with more than just 2 of everything.

I’ll first take you through what I bought and added to the daily wardrobe choices.

With it being so close to Christmas, a lot of shops are picked over. However, the sales are pretty great if you’re willing to dig through some stuff. I’ve been wanting a pair of patent leather shoes and have been browsing all the shops online, but nothing has caught my eye. On our walk to Soho I came across Doc Martens and immediately thought they might have what I was looking for: these Doc Marten shoes. I wore them so much during the trip to try and break them in and after a blister or two, I couldn’t be happier. Zara was the next stop. I always see items I love online, but it’s so hard for me to find anything in store for some reason. Knock on wood, I found SO much. So much as in over $750 in pieces I was trying on. I rationed between everything and narrowed it down to these plaid pants, cords, and this amazing sweater of which I wanted in every color. PSA: I think most of it is on sale now. The next day we traveled up fifth avenue and madison, where I stopped in Gucci. I loved and wanted everything, but my budget doesn’t allow me to feed all my wants. I’ve yet to buy it, but I have my heart set on this belt bag. I’m thinking it’ll be a January purchase just because I kept my spending to a minimum the rest of the trip. The only thing I bought otherwise, was this great women's cashmere/wool blend coat from UNIQLO on sale for only $79.90. It’s somewhat thin, but the natural fibers kept me so warm. For those curious, I frequently shop women's section and just buy XL in tops and 4-6 in bottoms. I did most of my shopping within the first 3 days so I would have a bigger variety of things to wear to restaurants, clubs, etc.

Now for a quick run down on each outfit with alternatives incase you guys are wanting something similar!

I definitely catered each outfit to what we were doing that day, wether it be walking around Soho or going to Broadway. I also changed sometimes just because I always feel better and ready to do much more if I do so halfway through the day. Besides, when in NYC why not be that person?

Newsboy

So it might be December, but the leaves are still turning in Charleston & I'm still able to get away with just a shirt some days. I shot this look on a little street tucked away not too far from King St.

I saw some retro photos and immediately started thinking about some of the older and newer pieces I had in my closet to create a look that is easy and comfortable. I paired this The Kooples' shirt with some of my Hudson jeans & a hat. Then, I decided to leave my shirt untucked since the jeans gave the illusion of being tucked into these Saint Laurent Boots. Overall, I think this is a classic fall look. The best part is, you could easily pair it with any type of coat (though I think shearling or checked coats are the bees' knees right now) to make the look adaptable to any weather.

The weather here in Charleston is constantly changing. Quite literally changing from 45 fahrenheit to 80 fahrenheit the next day, so obviously I am having to switch from a FW wardrobe to autumnal styles with spring silhouettes. Today was a colder one so I was able to bring out some of my go-to's. I actually found the Timo Weiland jacket on sale last December in Saks on my trip to NYC. Below I've listed everything I am wearing and while I know some items are pricier, I listed some alternatives for you guys to get the same look! (I also am all about shopping sale which is wear I was able to find most of these pieces).
